Admissions Policy The school accepts children of all nationalities and religious backgrounds. We follow the policy of the United Nations charter not to discriminate against children regardless of race or religion. At Tinkerbell we believe that all children have a basic human right to have access to education and be given every opportunity to be engaged in an educational process. If parents have concerns about their child mixing with specific racial groups or religious backgrounds; you are strongly advised to raise these concerns with the school office before enrolment. Tolerance and acceptance is at the core of the learning journey at Tinkerbell, and we take particular time out through the year to bring this to the attention of the children as we annually celebrate United Nations Day. Children requiring special needs support The school accepts children with disabilities who are assessed as educable or do not display disruptive behaviour in the classroom. You will be asked to provide UPK assessment of your children for us to evaluate. We are required to place these constraints on admission because the school does not currently offer SPED support for pull-out one-on-one tuition and behaviour management as there is no longer sufficient space in current premises for such a facility. All children with special needs who have enrolled at Tinkerbell since the school closed its SPED department in 2010 have continued in mainstream classes; participated in all school activities and special functions; and all have graduate successfully with their peer group; therefore parents can expect this level of mainstream participation for their child.

School Fees Payment of the monthly school tuition fee is due in the 1st week of the month. In the event of late payments, a reminder letter will be sent to parents. Parents are requested to note the following: * Students enrolled during the course of a month will be charged the full monthly fee. We therefore recommend that your child commences classes in the first week of the month. * So long as a student’s name is registered with the school, regular payment of fees shall continue regardless of absences due to illness, holidays, and such like. * If fees remain outstanding for a whole term or more, the student will not be eligible to sit the end-of-year examination.

Finally, we ask parents to be mindful of the following:
late payment of fees and the accumulation of outstanding fees has a debilitating impact on the school’s ability to function effectively. It creates an adverse cash-flow situation which affects the regular payment of teacher’s salaries; affects the school’s ability to provide extra-curricular activities for the children; and it affects the credibility of our relationship with our financial providers. We therefore urge all parents to pay their fees on time. For those parents who are eligible for the government claim – please ensure that the rebate reaches the school when cleared. Please remember that the school is only as good as the parents who support it. If you are falling behind in your fee payments, come and talk to the school office so we can work out a schedule of payments to catch up. Even on exceptional compassionate grounds the school may allow a child to continue into the forthcoming year with fees outstanding from the previous year. The important thing to remember is keep the school advised of your situation and build a trustworthy relationship with the school office. The school must have the confidence that parents will meet their obligations, so that the school itself can meet its financial obligations.

Enrolment Process Starting school - kindergarten By law, your child can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn 3 years of age at the commencement of classes. We have many parents enrolling their children late. Because students start new work in their new class at the beginning of the school year, it is far more advantageous for your child socially, emotionally and educationally to start school as soon as possible in the new year. Enrolling in primary school Enrolment appointments For your appointment you will need to bring these documents with you: * your child’s birth certificate or identity documents * immunisation history statement based on the Brunei Immunisation Register * family law or other relevant court orders (if applicable).
If your child is not a permanent resident you will also need to provide: * passport or travel documents * current visa and previous visas (if applicable). * It’s important that you tell the principal if your child has any special circumstances, allergies, health or medical conditions, before your child starts school. After your appointment with us, if you are satisfied with Tinkerbell as your choice of school, you will be asked to complete an Enrolment Application Form and return it to us. You may complete this form in Malay or English, however you feel comfortable. If you don’t have either of these languages as a writing skill, let us know and we will help you fill out the form or seek assistance from your Embassy. Re-enrolment requirements As the end of the year approaches the school will issue a Letter of Intent for parents to fill out and return to the class teacher to confirm whether or not you intend to re-enrol your child in the following year. This will help the school to plan its budget and allocate teaching resources. Outstanding fees for the year need to be settled; and a completed registration form submitted with: payment of registration fee and miscellaneous materials fee and first month’s tuition fee.

Withdrawal & Transfers If a child is withdrawn from the school and/or transferred, the school is to be advised at least one month in advance, in writing, using the school’s Withdrawal Form to avoid being charged next month’s fee. Parents who have paid fees in advance for a whole term or for the whole year will be reimbursed accordingly. If fees remain outstanding at the time of withdrawal/transfer, the Leaving Certificate will be withheld until payment is settled.
