Welcome back to school for 2024
Primary Department
Happy New Year and a warm welcome to the new school year.
This year there are major changes to the school curriculum and hours or operation due to 'Integration': the closure of the Ugama schools and the integration of their subjects into the curriculum of all mainstream schools. This change has required us to provide more classrooms for the Primary Department. To accommodate this change, we have had to relocate the Preschool to alternative premises and convert House No.8 (the preschool building) into Primary School classrooms.
The new Preschool premises is now located at:
Spg 612-27 Jalan Muara
Kg. Salambigar
The planned opening of the Preschool is 15th January subject to approvals from all authorities being finalised. A separate Memo to Parents will be issued prior to the opening of the new premises to confirm the commencement date of classes; assist parents in finding their way to the premises; and explain how to navigate into and through the premises for drop-off and pick-up.
But back to the Primary School: The current premises of TinkerBell Learning School will still retain the main office where it has always been, and the premises will now be referred to as TinkerBell School - Primary Department.
As we do at this time every year, we outline all the requirements to get you and your child/children ready for class; and for parents who are first-timers, a very special welcome as we walk you through the traffic
procedure for drop-off and pick-up.
The school will re-open on Tuesday, 2nd January 2024. For all Years please note the following:
1. Bring all Textbooks, Workbooks, Exercise books and other stationaries on the first day of class.
2. Existing students are requested to wear their complete school uniform; new students may come in
casual wear until their uniforms are ready.
3. Provide a Car label with your child's Name and Class level eg: 'Robert - Year 6 - Green' when you
drop-off and pick-up your child.
Years l & 6
As there is no 'integration', classes shall proceed as previous years with 2 sessions per day as follows:
1. Morning session: 7:15 am to 11:45 am
Afternoon session: 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Years 2-5
These will be the 'Integration' classes with only 1 teaching session per day:
1. Class: 7:30 am to 3:00 pm
Lunch break: 12:00 noon - 12:25 pm
Prayer time: 12:45 - 13:30 pm
2. Most importantly: you will need to pack a lunch for your child. If you require your child's lunch to be
chilled you will need to include an ice-pack.
Kindly see attached Timetable and Calendar of Activities for both Preschool and Primary School for your
reference.
As the year begins there are some procedures we need to draw to your attention, to ensure school
commences as smoothly as possible:
Traffic management in the school premises
Traffic management is one of our most important concerns at the beginning of the school year.
Understanding the routine to drop-off and collect your child is essential to ensure we achieve a smooth flow of traffic into and out-of the school premises. We therefore kindly request parents to observe the following traffic management protocols which the Ministry of Education has approved:
• Please do not get out of your car to send or collect your child as this will cause a traffic jam and
ultimately frustrate other parents who can't move their cars when they have already collected their
child.
• Children and teachers generally know what your car looks like, therefore children can quickly make
their way to the car as it approaches and stops to collect them in front of the building where their
year group is. If a child is distracted talking to friends or hasn't come out of the building, their name
is called along a line of teachers to locate that child. If you are a new parent, the Teachers will
obviously not recognise your car - please do not get out of your car and go looking for them - a
Teacher will approach you to look for the Car Label or ask the name of your child.
• Year groups will be in the following buildings:
House No.8: •All Year 1 •Year 3 - Green •Year 3 - Brown •Year 5 - Green •Year 5 - Yellow | House No.6: •All Year 2 ■ Year 3 - Yellow •Year 4 - Yellow ■ Year 6 - Green ■ Year 6 - Yellow | House No.4: •Year 3 - Red •Year 4 - Green •Year4- Red •Year 4 - Brown •Year 5 - Red •Year 6- Red |
• Cars will stop in front of the building where the child's classroom is. Often there will be two to three
cars dropping off or collecting children any one time. If a child comes out of the building and their car
has passed, a teacher will accompany them to their car to catch up; or that parent may circle around
again to collect.
• Traffic moves in one direction only - clockwise.
• We allocate two traffic wardens to direct traffic, so look for their assistance if you need it.
Every year we issue the following memo to all parents in the first week of class; which is directed to new
parents in particular. Please read the following text along with the attached Traffic Management Plan:
1. Drop-off/ Pick-up:
We have very important procedures for you to observe to avoid traffic congestion:
• Our most important rule is: Please stay in your car and wait for staff to collect your child or
bring your child to you. Do not leave your car to take you child to the classroom or collect
your child from the classroom - this will cause a traffic jam all the way back to Jin. Muara;
and never leave your car unoccupied and parked in the Simpang during drop-off/ pick-up
times.
• The drop-off, pick-up locations for each building are indicated in three locations where
marked 'x x x'.
If you are new to the school, it will take time for teachers to recognise your car and who your
child is so don't be alarmed; be patient if there is some delay in getting your child to the car
- let the teachers and the traffic staff manage this.
• If your child is in House no.8 turn into Gate 1.
• If your child is in House no.6 follow the traffic path through Gates 1 & 2 and stop briefly in
front of the building; then exit back along the Simpang if you have enough space to make a
hard-right turn. If you are blocked by another car, just follow the traffic path through to Gates
3 & 4 to exit.
• If your child is in House no.4 continue along the Simpang past Gate 1 and turn right through
Gate 3 into the play area, but please look ahead and check that the traffic is clear for you to
make comfortable right-hand turn. If not, then just follow the line of traffic through Gates 1,
2 & 3; and stop briefly in front of Gate 4.
• From time to time a car may need to exit Gate no.4 to cross the Simpang and re-enter Gate
no.1 to circle around again to complete their pickup. The traffic staff will spot this quickly and
will stop your car momentarily to let this car pass through. Thereafter, the traffic warden will
direct you to continue.
• Finally, if your child is not ready and you are blocking cars that are ready to leave, move aside
if there is space; otherwise circle around again - the traffic staff will hold traffic in the Sim pang
to allow you to cross from Gate 4 to Gate 1.
The main thing for all to remember is that when the traffic congestion does occur it only lasts for a couple of minutes so please be patient while the traffic staff assist.
2. Rear Pathway
For those children who are old enough to walk into the school, parents can park in
the simpang leading to the Mosque behind the school where there is an established pathway behind
House no.6 leading into the back of the school past the portacabin classrooms. Please use this access
as often as you can to relieve traffic congestion.
Traffic exiting the school to Jin Muara
Please refer to the Traffic Exit Plan attached:
Due to concerns raised by our resident neighbours regarding the blocking of traffic in Simpang 21 during
dro~ff and pick-up times, we request of parents who wish to turn right to Jalan Muara to instead turn left
and continue to the slip-lane at the Police Residential Complex - you will see many cars doing this to access Midvalley Shopping Mall. Turn right into that road; then execute a 'U' turn and turn left back onto Jalan Masjid Salambigar in the slip-lane - but be cautious and watch out for traffic turning into the slip-lane from Lambak Kanan to get into Mall. When traffic is clear, pull out and head to Jo/an Muara.
This procedure will take less than 1 minute and will greatly assist the following:
• Avoid congestion of traffic backing-up and blocking the Simpang all the way back into the school
premises;
• Avoid congestion of traffic along Jalan Masjid Salambigar trying to turn into Simpang 21 from both
directions;
• Avoid traffic accidents at the intersection of Simpang 21 and Jalan Masjid Salambigar;
• And allow the neighbours to get their cars into and out of Sim pang 21 in a timely manner.
We wish you and your child/children a happy and prosperous year with TinkerBell.
Yours Sincerely,
Daddy TinkerBell
